Stradbroke Island Medical Centre is accredited under the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Accreditation shows our patients we are committed to providing high quality, safe and effective care to standards of excellence determined by the general profession.
Billing
Mixed Billing: Locals with a HCC or PCC are bulk-billed, as are local kids under 16.
Please note there will be a treatment room fee for private patients, for any substantial skin excisions, to cover the cost of consumables, insurance and training. This is at the doctors discretion.
Fees for services cover the cost of providing you with a high quality health care service, including skilled doctors, practice nurse and reception staff, who are committed to ongoing professional development. They also cover the cost of the facility, accreditation costs, information technology software costs, medical equipment and consumables, insurance, utilities and comprehensive patient communications.

Dr. Anna Thomas-Mergler
Dr Anna Thomas-Mergler (Practice Principal); MB Bch FRACGP FACCRM DRANZCOG. Graduate of the University of Wales College of Medicine 1995.
Anna has more than 20 years experience in rural, remote type medicine on Straddie and in the Pilbara, WA, and over 20 years experience in womens' health and the insertion of contraceptive devices; She also has a keen interest in skin cancer management and all areas of family medicine including chronic disease management. For the last seven years, Anna has provided a mentorship and supervisory role for doctors new to General Practice on the General Practice training program and is an Accredited Skin Cancer Doctor with the Skin Cancer College of Australasia.
Anna fell in love with Straddie 24 years ago, and has been here ever since. She lives here with her husband and four children all who have a love of surfing and the beach. Anna is heavily involved in the Point Lookout Boardriders club and is a strong supporter of various local community organisations. In her time off Anna loves to surf and travel.

Dr. Amy Sheil
Dr Amy Sheil MBBS FRACGP DCH a graduate of Sydney University in 2002
Amy first came to Straddie as a General Practice registrar and has never left.
Amy has three children who are all sports mad and spends her time supporting their pursuits including touch footy, swimming and surf lifesaving. Amy is active within the school community and various sporting organisations that her children participate in.
Amy and her husband love camping and the outdoors lifestyle that living on Straddie offers and recently travelled around Australia for a year home schooling her children.
Amy is often seen walking her dog around Point Lookout.

Dr. Sarah wade
- Dr Sarah Wade graduated from the University of Newcastle, NSW in 2020. Sarah is interested in general medicine and rural healthcare. Sarah enjoys hiking, surfing and being active.

Dr. Shankar
Dr Shankar Seevanayagam BMedSci, MD graduated from Monash in 2022. Like many others before him, he has come on a 'working-holiday' to Stradbroke Island for GP Training! So far, he is quite worried he may not want to leave.
Born and raised in Melbourne, he decided it was time for a change of scenery and came to Queensland in 2023, spending time in Townsville, Gold Coast and Beaudesert along the journey so far. He enjoys chronic care medicine, specifically diabetes, obesity and heart health.
Outside of work, he has a love-hate relationship with running, enjoys basketball, AFL, Cricket and is being slowly converted to surfing and golfing (emphasis on slowly). He will be here for the year in 2026.

Tracy - Practice Nurse
MBBCh BSc University of Southampton, UK
Tracy completed a Bachelor of Nursing at QUT in 1993. She began her nursing career at Bowen Hospital in 1994, returning to Brisbane in mid 1995 to work at the RBWH and Prince Charles Hospitals. Tracy has worked as an RN for over 30 years in various specialty areas including Coronary Care, General Surgery, Plastics and Clinical Trials, working on various vaccine, drug and cardiac device studies. During the COVID-19 lockdown, she completed a Cert IV in Workplace, Health and Safety and has also worked as a Health, Safety and Training Advisor.
Tracy came to live permanently on Straddie in 2018 after her three adult children finished high school. She and her husband share a blended family with 5 children, 4 of which have left the nest. She enjoys being part of a very special island community and getting to know locals through her work at SIMC.
Tracy loves being outdoors and enjoys beach days, camping, mountain biking, paddle boarding and gardening.

Michelle Nothling - Practice Nurse
Michelle began her nursing careeer in 1983 in Brisbane, she has extensive experience working in community nursing and emergency nursing and has recently moved into general practice nursing.
She is a qualified Nurse Immuniser and holds a Scheduled Medicines endorsement.
She has lived and worked on Straddie since 1997 and has a love of beach camping along with her children and now grandchildren. Michelle loves outdoor cooking and spending time with her huge extended family.

My name is Jannine Savins. I am a resident of NSI and have been a physiotherapist for over 20 years. I have the knowledge, experience and skills to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders and injuries from chronic arthritis to acute sprains and strains. I am registered to treat and process WorkCover claims, Medicare funded care plans, veteran affairs and private health funded clients with HICAPS and EFTPOS facilities on site. Scott Johnstone
Physiotherapist

Scott Johnstone is a Senior Physiotherapist with a Doctor of Physiotherapy (Bond University, 2014) and a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science (University of Sydney, 2011). He has a special interest in surfing injuries and athlete development, and currently works with a wide range of clients including Olympic and Challenger Series surfers, world champion boxers, and complex rehabilitation cases.
Over the past decade practising on the Gold Coast, Scott has supported people through major injuries including shoulder dislocations, rotator cuff tears and repairs, lumbar disc herniations, post-surgical spine rehabilitation, knee injuries (meniscus and ACL), and rehabilitation following knee and hip replacements. His approach combines hands-on treatment, tailored exercise, and an evidence-based plan to help patients return to the activities that matter to them.
Scott moved to North Stradbroke Island temporarily with his partner in 2025, fell in love with the island, and is now a permanent resident. He continues to manage Sapien Rehab and Performance in Currumbin Waters on the Gold Coast.

This physiotherapy team from Wellington Point, is led by Kath Mitchell, a Sports Titled Physiotherapist, who has worked in sports, rehabilitation and occupational health fields for more than 25 years. She currently consults for the Queensland Academy of Sports and holds the position of National Physiotherapy Lead for Softball Australia, and accompanied them to the Olympics in 2020. Prior to this, she has spent many years working and travelling with a wide range of sports and continues to work with the Wynnum Manly Seagulls. She also enjoys changing the lives of the general population, by helping people manage their pain and function better in their daily life. Vida Percy
Audiology
Vida comes to visit once a month and can assist with comprehensive hearing assessments for all ages, and offers hearing rehabilitation services, including prescription, fitting and evaluation of hearing aids. To book in phone 07 3398 7555 or enquire at the surgery.
